ORDINANCE NO. 17-75
AN ORDINANCE ADOPTING A
CHARTER FOR THE CITY OF DU-
BUQUE, IOWA, EMBODYING THE
EXISTING FORM OF GOVERNMENT
ON JULY 1, 1975.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE CITY
COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DU-
BUQUE, IOWA:
SECTION t. Purpose. The purpose of
this ordinance is to provide for a charter
embodying the form of government exist-
ing on July 1, 1975.
SECTION 2. Charter. This ordinance
may be cited as the Charter of the City
of Dubuque, Iowa.
SECTION 3. Form of Government.
The form of government of the City
of Dubuque, Iowa, is the Council -Man-
ager -at -large form of government.
SECTION 4. Powers and Duties. The
City Council and Mayor and CityMan-
ager and other City officers have such
powers and shall perform such duties as
are authorized or required by state Iaw
and by the ordinances, resolutions, rules
and regulations of the City of Dubuque,
Iowa.
SECTION 5. Number and Term of
Council. The City Council consists of
five (5) councilmen elected at large for
a term of four (4) years.
SECTION 6. Term of Mayor. The City
Council shall elect one of its members to
serve as mayor and such election shall
be made at the first council meeting in
January of each year and the term of
the mayor shall be for one year.
SECTION 7. Copirs on 1 -dr. The City
Clerk shall keep an official copy of this
Charter on file with the official records
Of his office, and shall immediately file
a copy of the City Charter with the
Secretary of State of Iowa, and shall keep
copies of the Charter available at the City
Clerk's office fur public inspection.
SECTION I. The,, EJJertivr. This or-
dinance shall be effective after its final
passage, approval and publication as re-
quired by law.

City Council of the City of Dubuque,
Iowa, on this 9th day of June, 1975.
