Letter from Citizen - Increase in Rental FeeZ,

How can any counsel member with a conscience vote for a 173% increase
in a Rental fee. Is there any billing you receive that you would not find it
outrageously ludicrous to find it requires a 173% higher price?
Many Landlords will have no other option than to past this on to the Tenants who
many times are already renting because they have low income and can not
afford to buy their own home. The Tenants may have a bad credit history, going
through a divorce, experiencing a work change, or just down on their luck.
Maybe they are graduating from high school and college and in transition, do
not have good job security, or no disposable income. For what ever reason we
are doing these renters and Landlords an injustice in the housing community
demanding such a large and monstrous increase.
There is also a disparity in the number of housing inspections per unit (once
every five years) Not true! The present cost of unit inspection, whether it be
single family unit or multi family units. (Copy of present billings - see attached)
Also, I question the need for all these inspections, services, and employees
needed to accomplish this bureaucracy and invasion of privacy for both the
Tenants and property owners.
After many years of unfair property tax burden on property owners with over 2
units or more per property, although residential but taxed commercial (and
thinking we may get a break) the City Manager looks for another way to pick the
pockets of its citizens, that, being the Landlords and Tenants. Even the tax
reduction will probably never be seen due to the reassessed values on properties
that were most all adjusted upward meaning more property taxes for everyone.
Whatever happened to all that money income from the Mystique, the local option
tax, storm water run off fee, and utility bills franchise fees - gas bills - electric
bills - water - sewer - rent from city owned land such as the Diamond Joe, etc.
And what about all that downtown grant money and so on and so on.
Let's get a reign in on spending! A concerned property owner and citizen of
Dubuque.
