Minutes_Cable Community Teleprogramming Commission 8 26 10MINUTES OF CABLE COMMUNITY TELEPROGRAMMING COMMISSION MEETING August 26, 2010 CITY HALL ANNEX — 1st FLOOR CONFERENCE ROOM #1 MEMBERS PRESENT: Pauline Maloney, Sr. Carol Hoverman, Al Vincent, George Herrig, Jennifer Tigges arrived at 4:05 p.m. MEMBERS ABSENT: Two seats are vacant on the Commission. OTHERS PRESENT: Mr. Herrig called the meeting to order at 4:02 p.m. Acceptance of the Agenda Upon a motion by Sr. Hoverman seconded by Mr. Vincent, the agenda was accepted by a vote of 4 - 0. Approval of the Minutes of the July 6, 2010, Meeting Upon a motion by Ms. Maloney, seconded by Sr. Hoverman, the Minutes of the July 6, 2010, Meeting were approved 4 — 0. camBlock Demonstration City of Dubuque Video Producer Erich Moeller played a short video of time lapse recordings using the newly acquired camBlock motion - controlled tripod head and the solar - powered time lapse system. He also gave a live demonstration of the camBlock system. Public Comment Becky Specht addressed the Commission on her role in producing videos at Holy Family Catholic Schools for the new school year and her replacement at Wahlert High School. She has contracted to produce 20 videos over the course of the school year but she will not be teaching any classes. Access Equipment & Expenditures Mr. Nowack presented a request for $5,700 for the digital single lens reflex camera package for the camBlock motion - control system. This package will enable the City to record images as a series of still images or HD video to a Canon 5D digital SLR and allows more flexibility in producing the desired output. Ms. Tigges suggested that a Canon 7D be purchased instead saying it is a less expensive camera and one that she personally prefers to the 5D. Mr. Nowack said that both the creator of the camBlock system and its retailer recommend using the 5D body. Sr. Hoverman moved to approve up to $6,000 for this request. The motion was seconded by Mr. Vincent and approved 4 — 1 with Ms. Tigges voting against. Mediacom Cable Report Jim Barefoot, Mediacom Becky Specht, Holy Family Catholic Schools Erich Moeller, City of Dubuque Craig Nowack, City of Dubuque Mr. Barefoot reported on upcoming productions as the public access facility comes out of the summer lull and into the busier fall production season. He also provided an update on the transition to Loras 1 College taking over the day -to -day operation of Channel 17. Sr. Hoverman requested for the next meeting that Mr. Barefoot bring a schedule and list of programs for the public access channels. Cable TV Report Mr. Nowack provided an update on the various ongoing projects in the Cable TV Division. He reported that the summer intern has been shooting a tremendous amount of video footage, especially of the City's construction projects. Within the past 10 days Featurettes have been completed for the new Art on the River sculptures, RAGBRAI, and the recent visit of the Nina and the Pinta. Mr. Nowack informed the Commission that the ice arena cabling should be installed soon and that the total cost will be considerably less than the grant.
