Re: Objection to proposed improvements to University Ave, Lot 1-2 Summit Add.
To Whom It May Concern:
On August 22nd, we received notice that an assessment was placed on our
property in the amount of $5,171.90. The notice stated that all objections must be
presented to the city clerk's office by September l5th at 6:30 p.m. Please accept
this letter as an official "objection".
Our reasons to object this assessment are many, too many to name in this letter.
The stretch of University Avenue that we live on is primarily businesses and
apartment buildings. We are a single family residence, and we are being
assessed at least 5% of what our property is valued. We understand that
assessments are a fact of life, but it is not the assessment we are objecting to, it is
the amount. Five percent for this piece of property is too high. We believe that it
is safe to say that University Avenue is a main thoroughfare for many citizens in the
county, and one of the busiest streets in the city. Why should a handful of people
pay an excessive amount of money for this main thoroughfare?
It is with regret that we are unable to attend the city council meeting this evening
due to a prior commitment. Again, it is not the assessment that we are objecting,
it is the amount. We hope that the council would agree that 5% is much too high
to pay for this area.
Sincerely,
Christopher and Carisa Simpson
