Final Acceptance of the Old U.S. Highway 20 Water Main Phase II
Extension Project
Water Department Manager Bob Green ~s recommending acceptance of the Old U.S.
Highway 20 Water Main Extension Project, as completed by Drew Cook & Sons
Excavating, in the final contract amount of $94,121.38, which is $16,517.88 over the
odginal bid pdce due to the need to bore under Highway 20. The additional money
needed to support this project is available within the approved CIP. It is also
recommended that City Council authorize the final payment to Drew Cook & Sons
Excavating in the amount of $4,706.07.
I concur with the recommendation and respectfully request Mayor and City Council
approval.

Extension Project
INTRODUCTION: This memorandum is recommending final acceptance of the Old
U. S. Highway 20 Water Main Extension at a final cost of $94,121.38.
DISCUSSION: On October 21, 2002 the City of Dubuque Water Department
entered into an agreement with Drew Cook & Sons Excavating for the installation
of approximately 1,700 feet of 12 inch ductile iron water main along the north side
of Old U. S. Highway 20 from intersection of Radford Road and proceeding west
on Highway 20.
This improvement will supply water service to residences in this area and is a part of a
multiphase project in providing a second water main feed line to the Westside Industrial
Park.
The original bid pdce for the project was in the amount of $77,603.50. Because of the
need to bore under Highway 20 created 3 change orders resulting in additional
expense in the amount of $16, 517.88, making the total project cost $94,121.38. The
additional monies needed to su~)port this project is available within this approved
C.I.P.
ACTION REQUESTED: Staff and I.are requesting your approval and recommehdation
to the City Council that they adopt the two resolutions, one approving the project and
one approving the final cost of $94,121.38 and authorizing the final payment to Drew
Cook & Sons Excavating in the a_mount of $4,706.07 in accordance with the State of
Iowa Statute.

RESOLUTION NO. 315-03
ACCEPTING IMPROVEMENT
Whereas, the Contract for the Old U. S. Highway 20 Water Main Phase II
Extension Improvement Project has been completed and the City's Consultant
I. I. W. Engineers and Surveyors of Dubuque, Iowa recommend acceptance of the
project.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF DUBUQUE, IOWA:
Section 1. That the recommendation of the City Manager be approved and that
said improvement be accepted.

FINAL ESTIMATE
Whereas, the contract for the Old U. S. Highway 20 Water Main Phase II
Extension Improvement Project has been completed and the City has submitted
the final estimate showing the cost thereof.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA:
Section 1. That the cost of said improvement is hereby determined to be
$94,121.38 dollars.
Section 2. That the final payment of $4,706.07 be paid to Drew Cook & Sons
Excavating in accordance with the State Statute from funds in the Water Department's
FY '03 CIP Budget.
