Minutes_Library Board of Trustees 8 26 10Carnegie- Stout Public Library Library Board of Trustees Update From the Meeting of August 26, 2010 Present: President; Diann Guns, Paula Connors, Elizabeth Leeper, Fred Miller, Kristen Smith and Mike Willis Excused: David Hammer • Eight percent of the fiscal year has lapsed with nine percent of the budget expended • Library use was down in July. Although elevator access was restored for the first time since May 10 use was down in every category. It is not known if the decrease was due to the inconvenience experienced in the last months of construction • The Art Subcommittee met to discuss launching Art@ your library again. The committee agreed that the exhibits would be last two months and they would like the first exhibit to kick off in November. Commissions from the sales go to support future exhibits. • The Art Subcommittee /Library will partner with the Women & Spirit exhibit that will be at the National Mississippi River Museum February 18 — May 22. A companion exhibit will be at the Library and art work by local Sisters will be on display. Sr. Pricilla Wood is coordinating these efforts with the congregations, the Art Subcommittee and Library Administration. • The Board approved new guidelines for the Art Subcommittee which will allow up to seven members. The group has become more hands on and requires more volunteer work from members, which previously was limited to three. • The Library received a grant award from Alliant Energy which will go toward the purchase of a foreign language database. The database will be available in the library or from remote sites. Mango includes 48 unique language courses and 14 English as a second language courses. • Hiring of library staff is nearly complete. All existing library employees whose jobs were eliminated were hired in new positions. Additionally, 5 part -time library assistants and one part-time secretary were hired. It is anticipated that the vacancies for the library aide positions (3 part-time) will be filled by mid - October. • The children's summer reading program had 2,718 registered with a 63 percent completion rate and over 400 in attendance for the final program. The adult summer reading program had 241 registered with a 54 percent completion rate. • The Board discussed the renovation project and outstanding issues as the focus changes to completion.
