Proclamation_Niemann-Pick Disease Awareness Month October 2010
PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, Niemann-Pick Disease is a devastating, metabolic disease that
affects children and adults through a rare genetic illness that is
difficult to diagnose; and
WHEREAS, there is no known cure or treatment for Niemann-Pick Disease; and
WHEREAS, in 1992, six families established the not-for-profit National Niemann-
Pick Disease Foundation, which today has over 350 member families,
has funded over $1 million in research projects, and provided
support for affected families in Iowa and across the country; and
WHEREAS, promoting awareness of this disease will aid in funding research,
improving diagnosis, and finding a cure.
NOW THEREFORE, I, KARLA A. BRAIG, MAYOR PRO-TEM OF THE CITY OF
DUBUQUE, IOWA, ON BEHALF OF THE CITY COUNCIL, STAFF AND CITIZENS OF
DUBUQUE, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM THE MONTH OF OCTOBER, 2010, AS
“NIEMANN-PICK DISEASE AWARENESS MONTH”
