Proclamation World Food Prize W
WHEREAS, the Dubuque Area Committee on Foreign Relations (DACFR) was
established in 2001 as an affiliate of the American Committees on Foreign
Relations in order to bring nationally-recognized foreign affairs experts to
Dubuque; and
WHEREAS, DACFR’s goal is to promote well-informed dialogue between Tri-State
residents and national policy-makers by providing a forum for open and
wide-ranging discussion of foreign policy issues; and
WHEREAS, the World Food Prize Foundation is headed by former Dubuquer and
Loras College graduate, Ambassador Kenneth Quinn, as a means of
promoting Iowa’s role as a leader in food production; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Robert Havener, co-founder of the World Food Prize, will speak to
DACFR at Loras College on October 14, 2003; and
WHEREAS, The World Food Prize Foundation will present the 2003 World Food Prize
on Thursday, October 16, 2003.
NOW THEREFORE, I, TERRANCE M. DUGGAN, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE,
IOWA, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM THE WEEK OF OCTOBER 14, 2003 AS:
“WORLD FOOD PRIZE WEEK”
IN THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA, AND URGE EVERYONE TO RECOGNIZE IOWA’S
AND DUBUQUE’S IMPORTANCE TO THE WORLD AS A SOURCE OF HIGH QUALITY
FOOD PRODUCTS AND A CENTER OF AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH AND
DEVELOPMENT WHICH BENEFITS THE ENTIRE WORLD.
