Fire Chief Dan Brown recommends City Council approval of an application to the
Assistance to Firefighter Grant Program for a grant in the amount of $66,750 to be used
to purchase Personal Protective Equipment to replace equipment that is reaching the
end of its service life. A 20% local match in the amount of $13,350 is required.
I concur with the recommendation and respectfully request Mayor and City Council
approval.

The Assistance to Firefighter Grant Program that is administered by the US Fire
Administration under FEMA grant period is now open. This grant program provides
money for purchasing equipment and related training and has a 20% local match
requirement. The Fire Department has been successful many times over the past
several years on obtaining awards in this program.
This year the Fire Department would like to apply for the purchase of Personal
Protective Equipment (PPE) that will replace equipment that is reaching the end of its
service life and will provide compliance with the latest standards and technology. This
equipment will include fire helmets, boots, gloves, flashlights and multi - purpose spanner
wrenches. This equipment will be worn and used by all the firefighters.
Total grant is for $66,750; the local match will be 20% which will be $13,350.
recommend that match be budgeted in FY2012. If this grant is awarded, the matching
funds will not be needed until after the FY2012 budget is in place.
I respectfully request that this be presented to the Mayor and City Council for approval
for the application to the grant program.
