Van Milligen, City Manager Fiber Optic Connection Between City Network and Port of Dubuque Public Works Director Mike Koch is recommending acceptance of the Fiber Optics Connection Project between the City Network and Port of Dubuque, as completed by Volkens Excavating, in the final contract amount of $11,625. This project allowed for the extension of the City's fiber optic system to the Grand Harbor Resort, the Grand River Center and the National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium. I concur with the recommendation and respectfully request Mayor and City Council approval. Koch, Public Works Director /~' Fiber Optic Connection between City Network and Port of Dubuque INTRODUCTION The enclosed resolutions provide for the acceptance of the construction contract for the Fiber Optics Connection Project between the City Network and Port of Dubuque. DISCUSSION Work has been completed by Volkens Excavating of Dyersville, Iowa, ~n the final contract amount of $11,625. The project provided for the installation of four-inch fiber optics conduit with one-inch interducts from a manhole at Fourth and Iowa Streets to the Port of Dubuque. This conduit allowed for the extension of the City's fiber optic system to the Grand Harbor Resort, the Grand River Center, and the National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium. RECOMMENDATION I recommend that the City Council accept the improvements and the final contract be established at $11,625. BUDGET IMPACT The summary of the project costs is as follows: Bid Final Construction Contract $12,332.00 $11,625.00 Contingency 2,430.20 0 Engineering 1,336.61 1,743.75 Total Project Cost $16,098.81 $13,368.75 The project will be funded with the Utility Relocation funds budgeted from the Port of Dubuque Fiscal Year 2003 appropriation. ACTION REQUESTED The City Council is requested to adopt the attached resolutions accepting the improvement and establishing the final construction cost. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA: Section 1. That the recommendation of the City Manager be approved and that said improvement be and the same is hereby accepted. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Treasurer be and he is hereby directed to pay to the contractor from the Port of Dubuque Utility Relocation Funds in amount equal to the amount of his contract, less any retained percentage provided for therein. Schneider, CMC, City Clerk RESOLUTION NO. 395-03 FINAL ESTIMATE Whereas, the contract for the Fiber Optic Connection Project between City Network and Port of Dubuque has been completed and the City Engineer has submitted his final estimate showing the cost thereof including the cost of estimates, notices and inspection and all miscellaneous costs. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA: Section 1. That the cost of said improvement is hereby determined to be $13,368.75 and the said amount shall be paid from the Port of Dubuque Utility Relocation Funds of the City of Dubuque, Iowa.
