The application addresses environmental health and safety hazards in at -risk target housing for a 36 -month program. DISCUSSION ACTION STEP MEMORANDUM Mic avl Van Milligen, City Manager Davi Harris, Housing and Community Development Department Application for HUD Healthy Homes Program Funding The Housing Department plans to develop a Healthy Homes Initiative that will be administered in conjunction with the proposed continuation of the Lead Hazard Control Program. This program will take a comprehensive approach to addressing multiple childhood diseases and injuries in the home by focusing on housing - related hazards in a coordinated fashion, rather than addressing a single hazard at a time. This program will incorporate meaningful community participation by partnering with other health outcome partners, community based organizations, and private foundations. This application is for the Healthy Homes Production Program, totaling $1,000,000, to be administered by the Health Services and Housing and Community Development Departments. The application addresses environmental health and safety hazards in at- risk target housing for a 36 month program in target areas in the City of Dubuque. The action requested of the City Council is to approve the attached resolution authorizing an application for the Healthy Homes Production Program funds in the amount of $1 million. cc: Mary Rose Corrigan, Public Health Specialist RESOLUTION NO. 432-10 RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO EXECUTE AN APPLICATION FOR A HEALTHY HOMES PRODUCTION PROGRAM GRANT Whereas, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has made funds available for the Lead Hazard Control and Healthy Homes Programs, including for lead -based paint hazard control, lead hazard awareness, training, community outreach, environmental assessments and treatment; and Whereas, the City of Dubuque proposes to initiate a Healthy Homes Production Program in Census Tracts 1, 2, 5, 6, 7.01 and 7.02 . NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA: Section 1: That the Mayor is hereby authorized and directed to execute an application to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for a Healthy Homes Production Program Grant in the amount of $1 million. Section 2: That the City Manager is hereby authorized and directed to forward said application and resulting standard executed contract to the respective agencies in a timely fashion and as required by the U.
