Dear City Council Members,
I am requesting that the city council members rethink the recreational burning
ordinance for the City of Dubuque. I have gathered several signatures on my petition to
prove that I am not the only person complaining about the fumes, smoke, and harmful
particulate matter that is released into the environment. The article that was printed in the
Dubuque Telegraph Herald, "Up in the Air," written by TH staff writer, Andy Piper only
justifies my concerns.
I see on the back of your, "2024 Vision Statement," a section titled "HIGH
PRIORITY," the section called Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Actions
Continue Implementation & Education." Well, The City Officials should think about
how much more disabled can a person get if they can't breathe. I realize that asthma is
debilitating only after I have been forced to live with reactive airways as a result of this
recreational burning. I would think well educated people would understand that the City
of Dubuque totally overlooked the people with breathing difficulties. The City Officials
need to be educated on the life threatening breathing problems that asthma and other
respiratory complications can produce when forced to breath in the hazardous smoke
from the backyard fire pits.
