Piekenbrock Carl Steuck said petition be referred to the City Attorney for a report. JAMES SAUL, Chairman. Your Committee of the Whole, to whom was referred the petition of St. Joseph's College stating that it is now and has been for several years the owner of Lots 820 and 21 in A. Mc- Daniel's Subdivision which lots are not now and have not been during any part of the time they were owned by the college, used with a view to pecu- niary profit, and asking therefore that the taxes levied against said lots be canceled, would respectfully recom- mend that the prayer of the petitioner be granted and that the City Treasurer be instructed to cancel the taxes as- sessed against said lots for the years 1910, 1911, 1912 and 1913. JAMES SAUL, Chairman. Your Committee of the Whole, to whom were referred the petition of the Trustees of St. Luke's Methodist Episcopal church and of A. A. Cooper asking that a reduction be made in the amount of the assessment levied against their properties for the brick paving of the alley between Main and Locust Streets because of that portion of said alley abutting their lots being occupied by sidewalk and areaways. and therefore not requiring anv pav- ing, would respectfully report that the assessment on said alley was levied in accordance with the benefits con- ferred and not by the square foot. In computing the amount assessable upon each lot along said alley, the City En- gineer took the total cost of the im- provement and divided said cost by the total length, and levied the assess- ment equally on each lineal foot of the improvement, and as the lots in ques- tion derive as much benefit from the improvement as do all others along said alley, we respectfully recommend that said petitions be received and filed. JAMES SAUL, Chairman. Your Committee of the Whole, to whom was referred the petition of the Sisters of Charity, B. V. M. et al asking that a reduction of thirty per cen be made in the assessment levied against their property for the improve- ment of West Locust Street, and also the written objections to said levy of Thomas Hughes, E. C. Blake, John Flynn, J. V. Rider, S. P, Rider and the Sisters of Charity, B. V. M., would respectfully report, after viewing the grounds, that we find on account of the topography of the abutting prop - •erty that some of the lots have been benefited to the full amount of the Regular Session, February 5, 1914 43 assessment, while others have not; we therefore deem it unjust to make a level, reduction as prayed for and Would recommend that said petition be received and filed. We would recommend, however, that the City Treasurer be instructed to make the following changes in said assessment: Per Am't of Description. Cent. reduction. Wm.
