2000 Sidewalk Installation Program
Public Works Director Mike Koch is recommending acceptance of the 2000 Sidewalk
Installation Program on Cedar Cross Road, as completed by Perry Construction, in the
final contract amount of $22,631.30.
I concur with the recommendation and respectfully request Mayor and City Council
approval.

SUBJECT: 2000 Sidewalk Installation Program
INTRODUCTION
The enclosed resolutions provide for the acceptance of the contract for the 2000
Sidewalk Installation Program on Cedar Cross Road.
BACKGROUND
This project consisted of installation of public sidewalk on the west side of Cedar
Cross Road, from Starlight Drive to Center Grove and which contract was awarded
on October 7, 2002. The property at the northeast corner of Embassy West Drive
and Pennsylvania was also included; however, this property was given a stipulation
that a temporary walkway of crushed rock with lime surface was to be installed
immediately and the City Council approved an extension until December 16, 2004,
for the installation of the permanent concrete sidewalk.
DISCUSSION
Perry Construction has completed work on the project in the amount of $22,631.30.
RECOMMENDATION
I recommend that the City Council accept the improvement, the final contract price
be established at $22,631.30, and adopt the final schedule of assessments.
The City was to pay for a portion of the sidewalk to be assessed leading up to the
Cedar Cross Road Bridge and the other property owners opted to complete their
sidewalks prior to the City's contractor; thus, there will be no assessments on this
project.

The construction costs were reduced since Cedar Cross Investment Co. installed its
walk prior to the City's contractor performing the installation. However, 40 feet of
fencing was added for the comfort level of pedestrians utilizing the walk near the
bridge where a steeper bank exists.
The project is funded from the 1% Local Option Sales Tax Fund and from the capital
improvement allocation for guardrail improvements, from the Street Construction
Fund.
ACTION TO BE TAKEN
The City Council is requested to adopt the resolutions accepting the improvement,
establishing the final contract amount, and adopting the final schedule of
assessments.

ACCEPTING IMPROVEMENT
Whereas, the contract for the 2000 Sidewalk Installation Program has
been completed and the City Manager has examined the work and filed his
certificate stating that the same has been completed according to the terms of
the contract, plans and specifications and recommends its acceptance.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA:
Section 1. That the recommendation of the City Manager be approved
and that said improvement be and the same is hereby accepted.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Treasurer be and he is hereby
directed to pay to the contractor from the 1% Local Option Sales Tax Fund and
the Street Construction Fund in amounts equal to the amount of his contract, less
any retained percentage provided for therein.

FINAL ESTIMATE
Whereas, the contract for the 2000 Sidewalk Installation Program has
been completed and the City Engineer has submitted his final estimate showing
the cost thereof including the cost of estimates, notices and ~nspection and all
miscellaneous costs.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA:
Section 1. That the cost of said improvement is hereby determined to
be $24,253.30 and the said amount shall be paid from the 1% Local Option Sales
Tax Fund and the Street Construction Fund of the City of Dubuque, Iowa.
