Stop Sign Edina St at Glen OakMEMORANDUM
November 21, 2003
TO:
FROM:
SUBJECT:
The Honorable Mayor and City Council Members
Michael C. Van Milligen, City Manager
Edina Street at Glen Oak Street
A citizen request was received to install stop signs on Edina Street at Glen Oak Street.
A review of the accident reports indicates that there have been two accidents at the
Edina and Glen Oak intersection in the last three years. Because of the Iow volume of
traffic, this translates into a relatively high accident rate. Two quadrants of the
intersection contain features that present considerable sight distance restrictions.
Public Works Director Mike Koch recommends installation of stop signs for eastbound
and westbound traffic on Edina Street at Glen Oak Street.
I concur with the recommendation and respectfully request Mayor and City Council
approval.

Michael A. Koch, Public Works Director
Edina Street at Glen Oak Street
INTRODUCTION
The following is in response to a citizen request to install stop signs on Edina
Street at Glen Oak Street.
DISCUSSION
Glen Oak Street extends from West Third Street to Rosedale Avenue, with the
last section extending from Loras Boulevard to Rosedale Avenue uninterrupted.
Edina is a short street connection approximately 2 blocks long, intersecting with
Glen Oak Street.
A review of accident reports indicates that there have been two accidents at the
Edina and Glen Oak intersection in the last three years. Because of the Iow
volume of traffic, this translates into a relatively high accident rate.
Two quadrants of the intersection contain features that present considerable
sight distance restrictions. The safe approach speed for traffic on Edina is below
that which is considered acceptable.
RECOMMENDATION
I recommend the installation of stop signs for eastbound and westbound traffic on
Edina Street at Glen Oak Street.
ACTION TO BE TAKEN
The City Council is requested to adopt the attached ordinance.
