Dear Mayor Buol;
My concern regarding school children waiting for a bus on the corner of Marywood and JFK has
gone unheeded by the school transportation director again.
Enclosed is a copy of my September 2010 letter to the transportation department with one of the
four photographs that I sent them. I have had no reply to my letter.
Yesterday when I brought in my Telegraph Herald, I noticed a young girl waiting for the school
bus by the stop sign on the corner of Marywood and JFK. If I put an X on the enclosed
photograph where she was standing yesterday and this morning, it would be under the SUV.
I have addressed this issue of picking up students on this corner since my 2007 letter to Ann
Michalski. In July 2008, I wrote Karla Braig including photographs of seven vehicles that ended
up on our lawn the winter of 2007 -2008.
I will keep addressing this issue as long as I reside at this location as I know that the safest route
for school children to walk to bus stop is not along JFK and not standing on our corner waiting to
be picked up by the bus. I certainly can't be the only person that sees the danger of someone
standing on this corner waiting for a bus?
If you share my concerns regarding the safety of the student that I've seen walking up JFK and
waiting for the bus, anything you can do would be appreciated.

Attn: Transportation Director
Last year I spoke to two of the personal in the school transportation office regarding my
concerns of students walking up JFK to the bus stop either on the corner of Marywood Drive and
JFK or the stop that is in the middle of Marywood Drive.
Over the past several years, I have taken photographs of vehicles or their tracks as a record of why
I am concemed for the safety of those that are on foot along John F. Kennedy.
Enclosed are the photographs that I took this past winter.
23 Dec 2009 Just a light snowfall but early a. m. the driver missed making the turn and ended up
on the sidewalk where students have been picked up. Driver used our driveway to get back on
street. Also, note the track of another vehicle that barely made it around the corner.
09 Feb 2010 I did not see the vehicle that made the tracks in the snow alongside the garage but I
do know that they were not there earlier in the day when I removed snow from the driveway. We
have a manhole cover across from the light pole and the tracks where the vehicle went off the street
were visible ahead of the manhole cover this spring when I started mowing. The vehicle got back
on street just before second light pole.
10 Feb 2010 I had cleaned the sidewalk several times throughout the day and had not seen any
vehicle leave the road but by late afternoon someone missed the turn and ended up onto the
sidewalk.
11 Feb 2010 In late morning when I had gone out to clear off the driveway, I noticed that the
stop sign was leaning far to the right. The stop sign over the years has been hit several times and
once two years ago it was hit with such force that it way lying on the ground. That happened
around 2:30 p. m. as our neighbor was home ill from school and he had heard a loud noise and
when he looked out his window, who ever hit the pole was long gone. One can see the several
welds to the post at the bottom of sign. Notice in earlier photographs that the sign is standing
straight.
This school year, I see a young girl walking up JFK from Raven Oaks Drive to catch the school
bus that picks up half way down Marywood. She did tell me that she would not walk this way
when winter comes.
As you can see by the enclosed photographs, we don't need much snow to make this stretch of
John F. Kennedy dangerous.
Sincerely;
