Van Milligen, City Manager Madison Street Sanitary Sewer Extension Sealed bids were received for the Madison Street Sanitary Sewer Extension Project. Due to an error in the bidding process, Assistant City Engineer Gus Psihoyos recommends rejection of the bids and recommends the City Council authorize the re- bidding for January 13, 2004. By re-bidding the project on this date, the public hearing already set for January 19, 2004 does not have to be rescheduled. Van Milligen, City Manager FROM: Gus Psihoyos, Assistant City Engineer SUBJECT: Madison Street Sanitary Sewer Extension INTRODUCTION The enclosed resolution provides for the rejection of the bids for the Madison Street Sanitary Sewer Extension Project. DISCUSSION Sealed bids were received on the Madison Street Sanitary Sewer Extension Project on December 18, 2003. Due to an error in the bidding process, it will be necessary to rebid the project. RECOMMENDATION I recommend that ail bids be rejected and that the Council authorize the rebidding of the Madison Street Sanitary Sewer Extension Project for January 13, 2004. By re-bidding the project on this date the public hearing already set for January 19, 2004 does not have to be rescheduled. ACTION TO BE TAKEN The City Council is requested to reject all bids and to authorize the rebidding of the Madison Street Sanitary Sewer Extension Project for January 13, 2004 by the adoption of the enclosed resolution. Koch, Public Works Director Todd Irwin, Engineedng RESOLUTION NO. 7-04 REJECTING ALL BIDS RECEIVED FOR THE MADISON STREET SANITARY SEWER EXTENSION PROJECT AND RE-ORDERING BIDS FOR THE PROJECT Whereas, sealed proposals have been submitted by contractors for the Madison Street Sanitary Sewer Extension Project (the Project) pursuant to Resolution No. 497- 03 and notice to bidders published in a newspaper published in the City of Dubuque, Iowa on the 5th day of December, 2003. Whereas, said sealed proposals were opened and read on the 18th day of December, 2003, and Whereas, the City Council has deemed it advisable to reject all bids and to re-bid the Project. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA: Section 1. That the bids for the above Project be rejected and the Manager is authorized and instructed to return the bid deposits of all the bidders. Section 2. That the City Clerk is hereby directed to re-advertise for bids for the Project, to be published in a newspaper having general circulation in the City of Dubuque, Iowa, which notice shall not be less than four da~{s nor more than forty-fn/e days pdor to the receipt of said bids at 2:00 p.m. on the 13u' day of January, 2004. Bids shall be opened and read by the City Clerk at said time and will be submitted to the Council for final action at the City Council meeting on the 19th of January, 2004.
