785 Gillespie St. purch W 32ndMEMORANDUM TO: FROM: SUBJECT: December 19, 2003 The Honorable Mayor and City Council Members Michael C. Van Milligen, City Manager Purchase of Property at 785 Gillespie Street The 2001 HDR "Drainage Basin Master Plan" identified 16 homes to be purchased as part of the expansion of the West 32"d Street detention basin. A combination of excavation and installation of an earthen berm will double the storage capacity of this basin, from 46 to 94 acre-feet. This is projected to have the effect of substantially reducing peak flows and flooding depths in the upper portion of the Washington Street Subarea, north of 24t~ Street. Housing and Community Development Department Director David Harris is recommending City Council approval to purchase a residential dwelling owned by Joseph and Sara Widmeier at 785 Gillespie Street as part of the acquisition program associated with expansion of the West 32nd Street detention basin. An independent appraisal has established market value at $130,000 and the Widmeiers have accepted an offer for purchase in this amount. I concur with the recommendation and respectfully request Mayor and City Council approval.
