Duggan and Members of the City Council December 30, 2003 Claim Against the City of Dubuque by Paul Cesaretti Claimant Date of Claim Date of Loss Nature of Claim Paul Cesaretti 12/15/03 11/10/03 Property Damage This is a claim in which the claimant alleges that a leaky water meter caused water damage to the basement carpet of his residence. According to the report of Ken TeKippe, Finance Director, Utility Billing records indicate that a water meter inspector responded to a water meter leak at 2584 Glenview Circle at 3:00 p.m. on November 10, 2003, who discovered that the meter was leaking. The inspector replaced the water meter. Mr. TeKippe states that since the odginal water meter was installed in 1985, and the normal replacement cycle is 10-15 years, it is his recommendation to approve the claim as filed for $162.32. The Legal Department concurs with this recommendation. Our records show that we responded to a water meter leak at 2584 Glenview Circle at 3:00 p.m. on November 10, 2003. When Terry ardved, the water meter was leaking. Terry installed a replacement water meter. Since the water meter was originally installed in 1985 and the normal replacement cycle is 10-15 years, I would recommend the City cover the cost of the water damage ($162.32) based on the claim filed.
