The application, staff report and related materials are attached for your review. Discussion Planning Services Manager Laura Carstens spoke in favor of the request to demolish the one-story concrete block addition and noted the addition has no amhitectural or historical significance. She noted that the concrete block addition is less than 30 years old and is an inappropriate for the architectural style of the Star Brewery Building. There were no public comments. The Historic Preservation Commission discussed the request, finding that the concrete block addition has no historical or architectural significance. Recommendation By a vote of 6 to 0, the Historic Preservation Commission recommends that the City Council approve the request to demolish the concrete block addition with the following conditions: 1) That an approved development agreement with Alexander Co. be in place before demolition; and 2) that the demolition contract include a provision that any materials or features of historic or architectural significance be made available for reuse. A simply majority vote is needed for the City Council to approve the request for demolition. APPLICATION: The applicant seeks to demolish a one-story concrete addition. PUBLIC MEETING: After notice, as required by law, a Public Meeting was held on December 18, 2003. Minutes of the meeting and copies of materials submitted in evidence are on file in the Office of Planning Services, City Hall, Dubuque, Iowa. FINDINGS: Based on the specific information presented at the Public Meeting and contained in the application, and in accordance with the applicable standards in the Historic PreserVation Ordinance, the Commission makes the following findings: The building is not of historic or architectural significance. DECISION: By a vote 6 to 0, as indicated in the minutes, the Historic Preservation Commission approves the request with the following conditions: 1) That an approved development agreement with Alexander Co. be in place before demolition; and 2) that the demolition contract include a provision that any materials or features of historic or architectural significance be made available for reuse. THEREFORE: Pursuant to Chapter 25 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Dubuque, Iowa, the Commission hereby grants permission to the City of Dubuque and its designated representative(s) to issue the regulated permit(s) required to complete the approved project.
