Dubuque, IA 52001
Dear Mayor Duggon,
I'm writing to you today because of the cities choice for the relocation of Apex. The proposed Apex location on
Highway 52 South is a disastrous location far the community of Keywest and all of the Dubuque County people
that live south of Dubuque either on or dght off of Highway 52 South. It proposes a very dangerous situation.
The many families that commute into Dubuque on a daily basis will be put at an elevated danger of becoming
involved in a fatal traffic accident due to countless cement trucks using Highway 52 South. You are perhaps
thinkingto yourself that none of this really impacts you, but in a way it should vory much, if you and other city
council membem are so optimistic that this location is perfect far Apex's concrete plant then maybe you should
consider these points.
· Spend a certain amount offime on any given day and watch the number of semis that ten red lights so that
they don't have to stop and strut out in their very Iow gears. If they stop at ali, the line of traffic waiting for
them to gear up is lueg.
· Thereareca~wh~mnyo~w~ightsa~erwai~ngf~raheavily~adedcomenttmckt~crawithr~ughthe
intersection and the track bcing the uelyvehicie te make threugh on one light change.
· What is the cost of one child's lifa shueld they became curioes enuegh to wander onto the preperty.
Many are opposed to this location for Apex, and with good reason, but after a tragic and avoidable traffic fatality
dueto a cement track, and ultimately your decision, maybe the family and ffieeds of the victim will think twica
about supporting you and the other council members that supported this location.
if this many negative points can be brought up and thought of, what good coulri truly come out of this, besides
getting Apex out of downtown Dubuque which is all you've tried to do so far. The consequences apparently
haven't been an issue yet in your decision. What is wrong with placing Apex at the former Dubuque Packing
House, or any other un-used building downtown, is it too close to home for you then?
In ending is it a possibility to rethink your approval of this location, it is very apparent to me that
it doesn't take much for the council to open back up agenda items.
Sincerely,
Brian J. Behr
