SUBJECT: Mercy Medical Center Banner Request
Assistant City Manager Cindy Steinhauser is recommending City Council approval for
Mercy Medical Center to install six light pole banners on Langworthy Avenue and Hill
Street commemorating Mercy Medical Center's 125 years. Mercy Medical Center will
install approximately 52 more banners on light poles in Mercy's private lots.
I concur with the recommendation and respectfully request Mayor and City Council
approval.

Introduction
The purpose of this memorandum is to request City Council approval of installation of
banners commemorating Mercy Medical Center's 125 years.
Discussion
Attached is a request from Rod Tokheim, Vice President of Marketing for Mercy Medical
Center for approval to install 58 light pole banners commemorating Mercy Medical
Center's 125 years. Approximately 52 of these banners will be located on light poles in
Mercy's private lots, however six of the banners will be located on Langworthy Avenue
and Hill Street. Based upon City Council approval of this request, these banners will be
installed by April and will be up for the remainder of 2004.
Included in the information attached is the banner and bracket design. Mercy Medical
Center has also submitted the required revocable license application and insurance
certificate. While the city ordinance provides for the City Manager to approve revocable
license applications, the City Council had previously requested that they review all
future banner requests. City staff has reviewed this request and is recommending
approval.
Reauest
The requested action is for City Council to approve the request of Mercy Medical Center
to install banners on public right of way.

Dear Cindy:
Per your suggestion, I am writing this letter to seek approval from the city for the fifty-
eight light pole banners that Mercy Medical Center wants to erect to commemorate our
125th anniversary. It is the hospital's intent to install these banners this April and take
them down in November of this year. Attached you will find several things:
. A map outlining the locations where Mercy would like to place the banners
(while some of the banners will be placed on city or power company poles located
on Hill, Langworthy and Wooten Streets, the majority will be placed on Mercy's
own parking lot light poles.)
. Two diagrams which show the general appearance and dimensions of the banners
we are proposing to use.
. A description of the hardware that will be used to attach the banners to light poles.
