Supervisors, and all others concerned with the subject of this letter
Dear Public Servants:
Your octogenarian and "slípping" correspondent is constrained to make thís
communication concerning the care, consideration and support he received on Saturday
last (April 8th) at hís home in Dubuque under emergency condítions.
I slip to flfst person. I was well aware of my increasing enfeeblement from a long
standíng and chroníc back problem gradually shutting down my mobílity. But I fmnly
believed it was within my capabílity to use my garden kneeler to work on my back yard
brick patio. I was correct in this assessment, but found at the end of the chore I could not
get up in spite of my best efforts and those of relatives responding to my Mayday!
911 was called as my pain increased and my strength ebbed. In an order unknown
to me there appeared in response to my predicament four men wearing the uniforms of
Dubuque's Finest, Messrs. JeffSanderfield, Dave McQuiggin, Cal Motsch, and Tom
Sutter, and, believe me, it took all ofthem and considerable people skills to heave-ho me
to an upright posture and into a welcome seat followed by skilled and competent
examinations. All of this occurred in the kindest, most considerate, and compassionate
manner imaginable. I want very much to make it known how fortunate we are to have
such able and caring public servants to rely on and to call in adversity.
