SUBJECT: City Council Worksession on Progress of Safe Community Task Force
The purpose of this memorandum is to forward information for the City Council February
28 worksession regarding the progress of the Safe Community Task Force.
The following documents are attached to this memo:
1. a memo summarizing the history of the Safe Community Task Force;
2. a memo summarizing the recommendations made by the Task Force and the
current implementation status of those recommendations;
3. information related to the 2010 Research Study on Crime and Poverty conducted
by the Northern Illinois University Center for Governmental Studies. This
attachment contains the press release, executive summary, and conclusions and
recommendations. In addition, the full study is available to the public online at
www.cityofdubuque.org/safecommunity, copies are available at the library, and
the video of NIU’s presentation regarding the study results also is available on-
line at www.cityofdubuque.org/safecommunity.
4. a memo forwarding the final set of recommendations from the Safe Community
Task Force.
On February 28, we will present the above information in condensed form at the Council
worksession. The new Safe Community Committee, which was formed to monitor
progress on the implementation of the recommendations, will have its first meeting on
March 2.
