Re:
SR 2291 - Rehabilitating Abandoned Properties
Dear Representative
I am writing to request your efforts to support SF 2291 Rehabilitating Abandoned
Properties, This bill will streamline the process to acquire abandoned properties and
provides for an expanded tax abatement program that will provide additional incentives
to rehabilitate these properties. As you know, the City of Dubuque has been extremely
successful in turning run-down and abandoned properties into affordable, single family
homes. Many times these properties sold to low-income, first-time homeowners who
had little hope of owning their own without such incentives. These rehabilitated
properties also help to turn previously blighted neighborhoods into safe and healthy
neighborhoods.
I urge you to support SF 2291, which will help cities turn abandoned properties into
viable homes and neighborhoods.
Sincerely,
Michael C. Van Milligen
