Dear Mayor and City Council:
Please accept this letter as an expression of my interest in fulfilling the remaining months of
Dirk Voetberg's term as the city council representative for the Fourth Ward.
Dirk was a tremendous leader and representative of the Fourth Ward. We have lost a
community asset by his untimely passing. I could only hope to carry on his initiatives over
the next 8 months. If you select me to take his place at the council dais until his successor
can be elected, I will do my level best to make his focus, my focus. After all, it is his council
term, not mine.
To that end, I would continue to support efforts to make Dubuque a more sustainable
community, be an advocate for the less fortunate (both in the Fourth Ward and throughout
the City), encourage continued emphasis on the redevelopment of the Historic
Millwork /Warehouse District, reach out to the constituents in the Fourth Ward by holding
periodic "town hall" meetings, etc.
Included with this letter is a document outlining some of my community involvement over
the last 15 years. As you will see, my efforts to contribute to this community are rather
extensive but concentrated largely within the Fourth Ward.
