Van Milligen, City Manager SUBJECT: Concrete Repairs on Kerper Boulevard and North Grandview (CIP 300293; Concrete Street Section Repair) Assistant City Engineer Gus Psihoyos is recommending acceptance of the Concrete Repair Project on Kerper Boulevard and North Grandview, as completed by Drew Cook & Sons Excavating Co., Inc., in the final contract amount of $111 ,855.64. The increase in cost was due to additional concrete section replacement on North Grandview and Kerper as authorized by the Operations & Maintenance Department. Van Milligen, City Manager Gus Psi hoyos, Assistant City Engineer QA~ ../ -.J :-~ TO: SUBJECT: Concrete Repairs on Kerper Boulevard and North Grandview (CIP 300293; Concrete Street Section Repair) INTRODUCTION The enclosed resolutions provide for the acceptance of the construction contract for the Concrete Repair Project on Kerper Boulevard and North Grandview. DISCUSSION The project involved the replacement of deteriorated concrete on Kerper Boulevard from 9th Street to 12th Street and on North Grandview from Bennett Street to West 3rd Street. Drew Cook & Sons Excavating Co., Inc. of Dubuque, Iowa completed the repair in the amount of $111,855.64. The increase in cost was due to additional concrete section replacement on North Grandview and Kerper as authorized by Operations & Maintenance Department. Also that section of North Grandview from 3rd to Bennett Street has been milled to improve its rideability; this expense will be assumed by the contractor. RECOMMENDATION I recommend that the City Council accept the improvements and the final contract be established at $111 ,855.64. BUDGET IMPACT The summary of the project is as follows: Award Final Construction Contract $68,120.00 $111,855.64 Contingency 8,086.50 0 Engineering 4.447.58 903.97 Total Project Cost $80,654.08 $112,759.61 The project will be funded through the Fiscal Year 2002 and 2003 Capital Improvement Budget for Concrete Section Repair by the Operations and Maintenance Department, which has a budget of $50,000 from the 1 % Local Option Sales Tax Fund in 2002 and $100,000 in 2003. ACTION TO BE TAKEN The City Council is requested to adopt the attached resolutions accepting the improvement and establishing the final construction cost. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE,IOWA: Section 1. That the recommendation of the City Manager be approved and that said improvement be and the same is hereby accepted. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Treasurer be and he is hereby directed to pay to the contractor from the Fiscal Year 2002 and 2003 1% Local Option Sale Tax Funds in amounts equal to the amount of his contract, less any retained percentage provided for therein. Schneider, City Clerk RESOLUTION NO. 229-04 FINAL ESTIMATE Whereas, the contract for the Concrete Repairs on Kerper Boulevard and North Grandview have been completed and the City Engineer has submitted his final estimate showing the cost thereof including the cost of estimates, notices and inspection and all miscellaneous costs. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA: Section 1. That the cost of said improvement is hereby determined to be $112,759.61 and the said amount shall be paid from the Fiscal Year2002 and 2003 1 % Local Option Sales Tax Funds of the City of Dubuque, Iowa.
