Message: Good evening, I am writing you today in regards to the pollution problem in Dubuque. I was born and raised in
Dubuque and have watched the city grow and expand over the past ten years. I attended college outside of Dubuque and
returned to Dubuque after because I feel Dubuque is a growing city and a great place to live. While I am very encouraged by
the changes and growth I've seen, I'm very discouraged by the pollution down and around our river front. I certainly
understand it is a community problem. The community is not respecting the environment but I think those of us who see this
need to take a stand against it. Instead of asking them to stop throwing their garbage on the ground, we pick it up for them
and encourage further poor behavior. Community members love the river. They enjoy the river. I don't understand why they
don't see the harm they are doing to our river and community. I am writing to see if you have a stance in place for this. What
about putting signs around town discouraging litering (especially on the river walk and flood wall). Does Dubuque currently
fine for litering? I think accountability would discouarge this behavior if people were fined for saying throwing their can on
the ground or other garbage. I appreciate your time and response to this matter. Sincerely, Paula Kaufman
