PERMIT NO.18 CHANGE SERVICE REQUESTED Women Making HWory Ever since Eve told Adam to wipe hisfeet after walking in the Garden, the world has been blessed with many remarkable women —the vast majority forever unknown. Dubuque, like everywhere else, has had some very impressive women who labored tirelessly to bring civilization to the area. And again, most of their names are lost to the pages of history. WeatJulien'sJournalare unable to recoverthenames of these women who are lost in the dust of a bygone age, but we can honor a few women who are selflessly polishing the veneer of civilization that their ancestors helped create. We asked members of the Women's Leadership Network to suggest some of their sisters for recognition. Many names were submitted and all were excellent representatives, but in the end, we randomly selected three as "Women Making History." We are extremely grateful to all the women who sent suggestions and especially to those who agreed to write the stories of these fine ladies who exempla a passion for improving our community. We apologize that space does not allow us more than a brief synopsis of their many accomplishments. Finally, the HEART program run by Four Mounds, is very important to Cindy. This is a program that is about helping kids, with seemingly insurmountable barriers, suc- ceed —high school kids that others have written off as unable to suc- ceed and contribute to society. Th. HEART pro- gram provides a unique class- room experience and on- the -job training while helping to restore beautiful, affordable homes in our older neighborhoods. The HEART pro- gram provides these kids with learning and job skills in an environment that gives them the purpose, dignity and respect that has been missing.
