PROCLAMA TION
WHEREAS, Friendship Force is an international organization started by
President Jimmy and Rosalyn Carter as a means of promoting
goodwill throughout the world by getting people to know and
understand one another through home visits across the borders; and
WHEREAS, Friendship Force is currently active with 350 clubs in 56 countries,
including 41 in the United States. There has been nearly % million
Ambassadors and Hosts since its inception with 3300 exchanges
between clubs; and
WHEREAS,
Dubuque has been active in Friendship Force for over 25 years and
many have hosted guests from other countries and they and others
have traveled to Germany, England, New Zealand, Korea, Japan,
Australia and other countries and stayed with host families in their
homes, creating and enjoying long-lasting friendships; and
WHEREAS, the Dubuque Friendship Force is hosting visitors from Queensland,
Australia and they will be warmly welcomed and entertained in
various friendly homes in this area from Wednesday, August 11th
through Monday, August 16th.
NOW THEREFORE, I, TERRANCE M. DUGGAN, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF
DUBUQUE, IOWA, ON BEHALF OF THE CITY COUNCIL, CITY STAFF, AND
CITIZENS OF THIS AREA GRACIOUSLY WELCOME THESE VISITORS FROM
AUSTRALIA. WE ARE HONORED THAT THESE VISITORS HAVE CHOSEN
DUBUQUE, IOWA AS THEIR DESTINATION AND WE KNOW THAT THE HOST
FAMILIES AND OUR ENTIRE COMMUNITY WILL PROVIDE A WARM WELCOME
AND SHOW THESE VISITORS ALL THE BEST OF THIS WONDERFUL DUBUQUE
AREA. MAY THE JOYOUS, INTERESTING FRIENDSHIPS STARTED WITH THIS
VISIT LAST THROUGHOUT MANY, MANY YEARS.
