To the Honorable Mayor Buol and the Dubuque City Council,
On behalf of Green Dubuque, I would like to request a City Council work session in
which to present the recommendations of the Dubuque Community GHG Reduction Task
Force, including a community -wide GHG reduction goal and detailed information
supporting the feasibility and prospective benefits of achieving that goal in Dubuque.
The Dubuque Community GHG Reduction Task Force was convened in March 2010
following the completion of the Dubuque Community GHG Inventory. The Task Force
is a partnership of local non - profits, faith -based organizations, local government officials,
local business - people, and individual citizens with the designated purpose of
recommending a GHG reduction goal and feasible implementation strategy to the
Dubuque City Council based on scientific necessity and local feasibility.
We believe a work session will be useful to Council as they deliberate on a community
GHG reduction target. As the authors of both the Dubuque Community GHG Inventory
and a recent document detailing the major GHG reduction options available to Dubuque,
we offer unique expertise on GHGs in Dubuque. It is our hope that we can provide
insight and clarity on this issue as Council considers the next steps toward sustainability
in Dubuque.
