This sketch recreates
the Brunswick Recreation
Building which was located
on the corner of 32nd and
Jackson Streets. It offered
everything from a bowling
alley and gymnasium to a
restaurant.
About this calendar. . .
The 1996 celebration of the Iowa Sesquicentennial
marks the sixth anniversary of the popular "The
Dubuque of Our Memories" calendars created for
customers of Hawkeye Bank of Dubuque.
Originally created by Randolph W. Lyon, an educator
in the Dubuque Community School District, this year's
calendar was developed to highlight Dubuque County
history. It was developed by Mr. Lyon, with the help
of John Klauer, publisher of the former "Port of
Dubuque Visitor" newspaper for tourists.
The following people provided additional assistance
and deserve a special thank you: Delores Neuhaus
(New Vienna), Adrian Aitchison (Cascade), Verla and
Olan Tegeler (Worthington), Lorraine Schuster
(Dyersville), Ed Ungs (Luxemburg), Helen Wuertzer
(Centralia), John Schwendinger (Epworth), and Mary
Palmer (Farley).
Enjoy with us some events of our past and thirteen
new charcoal sketches from the artistic genius,
Norman Zepeski, the artist featured in this edition of
"The Dubuque of Our Memories."

About the artwork. . .
The drawings in this calendar represent many years
of work by Dubuque's own, Mr. Norman Zepeski.
A talented artist and photographer who loves to
capture classic architecture and familiar scenes, Mr.
Zepeski began his endeavors in 1934. Over the years
he's drawn such classics as the Crystal Ballroom,
Saint Mary's Casino and the Green Island Train Station.
Please enjoy Mr. Zepeski's art and this calendar,
compliments of your friends at Hawkeye Bank of
Dubuque.
