Dear Mr. Hail:
We have some delightful news to share with you! In 2003, The American Institute of
Architects, Iowa Chapter, (AlA Iowa) began a process to celebrate its IOOth anniversary
(this year) as an organization in Iowa. During the first quarter oflast year we solicited
nominations for Iowa's best structures of the 20th Century. Eagle Point Park Shelters were
nominated and were selected to be a part of that distinguished group of notable buildings.
The jury consisted of Governor Robert D. Ray, Chuck Offenburger, columnist, Eliot
Nusbaum, senior architecture and art editor of Traditional Home magazine, Robert
Broshar, F AlA, architect and Robert Findlay, F AlA, architect.
While we will not be releasing the entire list of the 50 buildings selected (5 from each
decade) until our 2004 AnnuaJ Convention on October 14, we wanted you to know that
your building was a winner! We ask that you keep this information confidentia] until
October 14.
There are some exciting things happening with this list of Iowa's Architecture of the
Century! AlA Iowa is producing a traveling display that will open at the State Historical
Museum on October 14 and be there until the end of the year. It is already scheduled to
trave] to cities around the state through 2005 and it will continue to travel as long as
interest remains high, Iowa Public Television is producing a one-hour documentary to be
aired for their December fùndraising effort and again ill !\'Iarch. AlA Iowa is also
producing a 126-page book that will chronic]e all of these magnificent structures and be
used as a premium for the IPTV fundraising documentary. IPTV will produce a video and
CD of their on-air programming.
I have enclosed an order blank for you to take advantage of purchasing the book, Iowa's
Architecture of the 20th Century, at a pre-publication special price. The books will be
