PROCLAMA TION
WHEREAS, the Young Women's Christian Association. a women's movement
nourished by its roots in the Christian faith, and sustained by the
richness of many beliefs and values; and
WHEREAS, The YWCA Domestic Violence program provides a safe haven and
support for victims of domestic violence along with community
education and awareness; and
WHEREAS,
Childcare, health and wellness, youth development, volunteer and
leadership programs draw members together who strive to create
opportunities for women's growth, leadership, and power to attain a
common vision of peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all people;
and
WHEREAS,
Community events such as the YWCA Week without Violence
October 17-23 with events such as the candlelight vigil on October
17 and other activities during the week provide education and
awareness of the tragedy of domestic abuse and all other forms of
violence.
NOW THEREFORE, I, TERRANCE M. DUGGAN, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF
DUBUQUE, IOWA DO HEREBY PROCLAIM THE WEEK OF OCTOBER 17-23, 2004
AS:
"YWCA WEEK WITHOUT VIOLENCE"
IN THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have
