Proclamation_Gay Pride Month (June 2011)
PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, the month of June has been recognized as Gay Pride Month by the
President of the United States and countless communities across the
nation for many years; and
WHEREAS, the City of Dubuque is a progressive and inclusive community, which
celebrates culture and heritage and supports efforts to ensure that
everyone has the right to live in conditions of dignity, respect, and peace;
and
WHEREAS, the City of Dubuque advocates for the elimination of all forms of
discrimination and displays commitment to the equal treatment of all
people; and
WHEREAS, taunting, bullying, and intolerance directed to those who are gay or
“different” in some way is an issue in our society, and Dubuque strives to
offer our youth a safe place; and
WHEREAS, this proclamation in and of itself sends a positive message of validation to
LGBT citizens of Dubuque that the City embraces LGBT individuals and
their families as part of the community.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY D. BUOL, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA, ON
BEHALF OF THE CITY COUNCIL, STAFF, DUBUQUE AREA PRIDE, THE DUBUQUE
CHAPTER OF PFLAG, RAINBOW PRIDE, STEPPING OUT PRODUCTIONS, AND
CITIZENS OF DUBUQUE, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM THE MONTH OF JUNE 2011 AS
GAY PRIDE MONTH
IN DUBUQUE AND CALL UPON THE CITIZENS OF DUBUQUE TO OBSERVE THIS
MONTH WITH APPROPRIATE PROGRAMS, ACTIVITIES, AND CEREMONIES IN
RECOGNITION OF OUR CITY’S DIVERSITY.
