Leisure Services Manager Marie Ware and Park Division Manager Bob Fritsch suggest
the position of Gardener be re- titled as a Horticulturist and the Assistant Gardener
position be re- titled as an Assistant Horticulturist to more accurately reflect the duties.
Personnel Manager Randy Peck recommends City Council approval to eliminate one
Gardener position and create one Horticulturist position, and eliminate two Assistant
Gardener positions and create two Assistant Horticulturist positions. The rate of pay for
these positions would remain the same.
I concur with the recommendation and respectfully request Mayor and City Council
approval.

I visited with Leisure Services Manager Marie Ware and Park Division Manager Bob Fritsch
regarding the appropriate titles for Gardener and Assistant Gardener. To more accurately
reflect the duties of these positions they recommend that the Gardener position be re- titled as a
Horticulturist and the Assistant Gardener position be re- titled as an Assistant Horticulturist. I
support their recommendation. The rates of pay for these positions would remain the same.
There is currently one Gardener position and in Fiscal Year 2012 there will be two Assistant
Gardener positions. The requested action is for City Council to approve a motion eliminating
one Gardener position and creating one Horticulturist position and also eliminating two
Assistant Gardener positions and creating two Assistant Horticulturist positions.
