Lyons Nature Center Expansion Project, CIP #100 -2171 DATE: May 29, 2011 Dubuque kitill Ai- America City 2007 Leisure Services Manager Marie Ware is recommending acceptance of the E.B. Lyons Nature Center Expansion Project, as completed by Stumpf Construction, Inc., in the final contract amount of $1,304,654.54, which is an increase of $75,287.54 from the bid amount of $1,229,367.00. This increase was due to change orders for additional excavation and upgrades. The additional costs will be paid by the Friends of the Mines of Spain ($35,789.45) and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources ($39,498.09). Lyons Nature Center Expansion Project. DISCUSSION The E.B. Lyons Nature Center Expansion Project has been completed by Stumpf Construction, Inc. in the final contract amount of $1,304,654.54. A summary of the project costs is as follows: Change order #1 Change order #2 Change order #3 Change order #1 provided for over excavation of poor soils for footing supports, additional door and staining of concrete floors. Change order #2 provided for door hardware changes. Change order #3 provided for vinyl flooring in lower level, revised sanitary sewer location, water tank installation, gate valves on five main piping and door upgrades. Change order #'s 1 and 2 are being paid for by the Friends of Mines of Spain and change order #3 is being reimbursed by the Iowa DNR. LYONS NATURE CENTER EXPANSION PROJECT AND AUTHORIZING THE PAYMENT OF THE CONTRACT AMOUNT TO THE CONTRACTOR Whereas, the Public Improvement Contract for the E.B. Lyons Nature Center Expansion Project (the Project) has been completed and the City Engineer has examined the work and filed a certificate stating that the Project has been completed according to the terms of the Public Improvement Contract and that the City Engineer recommends that the Project be accepted; and NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA: Section 1. The recommendation of the City Engineer is approved and the Project is hereby accepted. Section 2. The Finance Director is hereby directed to pay to the Contractor from the E.B. Lyons Nature Center Expansion Project appropriation for the contract amount of $1,304,654.54 Tess any retained percentage provided for therein as provided in Iowa Code chapter 573, and to pay such retainage only in accordance with the provisions of Iowa Code chapter 573.
