Dubuque Packing Company MemorialMay 4, 2011 Dear Mayor Buol and Members of the City Council, I want to compliment you on the partnerships you have formed to assist a private developer with the redevelopment of the site of the former Dubuque Packing Company, and your investment to relieve over 1,000 homes from the risk of flooding with the Bee Branch Creek Restoration Project. This all is especially imperative as it has expanded into becoming America's River III beautifying the gateway to the State of Iowa and the Mississippi riverfront. As former Chairman and President of the Dubuque Packing Company, I would like to propose a remembrance of this significant community icon and the thousands of people who made their living at the Dubuque "Pack." I have worked with some of the principles of the company to develop some language to memorialize the facility, and have worked with Brannon Monument Company to create an impressive, informative tribute memorial. The monument, proposed to be comprised of native limestone, red brick similar to that of the Pack, and black granite panels, would be an attractive gateway feature close to the Bee Branch Creek. The memorial would contain the inset of 3 granite panels. The first black granite panel would have an etched collage of various products and aspects of the operation. The center panel would have a written narrative of the history, growth and impact of "the Pack." The third granite panel would be a detailed, etched aerial view of the Dubuque Packing Company plant site. We estimate the cost of the project at $50,000, and I am willing to cover the cost of the memorial project via a donation to the city. I believe the most appropriate place for the monument would be on the southwest corner of 16 Street and Sycamore Street, just north of the new Bee Branch Creek. This location would be ideal as it would be directly across the street from the former main plant entrance. The tribute memorial would be situated in such a way to be visible from both 16 Street and the walking path along the Bee Branch Creek. And with the donation, my intent would be that the city build, own and maintain the monument. I appreciate you giving this consideration. Sincerely, Chuck Stoltz CAJobs1Quotes\Quotes111Packmemoria12.plt 5/2/201.1 11:02:29 AM Scale: 1:25.62 Height: 126.747 Length: 256.182 in - [ 11 I • .......110 ...ft ....1.1 law m T.
