RE:
Project No. STP-A-20-9(165)-22-31
US 20 Highway Intersection Improvements
Dear Dick:
At the October 18, 2004 City Council meeting, we indicated some concerns received
from constituents, particularly during reconstruction of the Wacker intersection.
Although the City worked on the staging of this project before its bid-letting, it is our
hope that in future cooperative projects consideration will be given on the following:
"Nighttime construction" versus "off-peak hour" construction. Although this factor
may increase cost, it would have been a beneficial consideration for a project of this
magnitude to consider nighttime work.
Stronger communications with impacted businesses. In the case of the Wacker
Drive intersection, the subcontractor contacted the businesses on Wacker Drive that
were directly impacted by the staged construction, however, our experience with this
project identified the need to contact businesses in close proximity to the project.
The City looks forward to the completion of this project and the marked improvement it
will provide for those traveling to/from Dubuque.
Sincerely,
DUBUQUE CITY COUNCIL
