Dear Mayor and City Council Members:
The Historic Preservation Commission formally invites you to an upcoming seminar entitled
Restore, Re-Tool and Reuse: The Economic Revitalization of Dubuque's Historic Buildings.
This seminar is scheduled for Tuesday, February 29, 2000 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m-
at Loras College Alumni Center, Ballroom C. The Historic Preservation Commission is a co-
sponsor of this program with Premier Bank, the Dubuque County Historical Society, the
Center for Dubuque History-Loras College and the Dubuque Board of Realtors. If you plan
to attend, please contact Karen Fassbinder at Premier Bank, 588-1000.
This seminar will feature speakers from local, regional and national perspectives on the role
of historic preservation and economic revitalization, particularly in urban areas. The keynote
speaker will be Jean Eide of MetroPlains Development of St. Paul. She will outline national
trends and case studies of historically significant structures making the transition to
adaptive re-use and economic viability. A resource panel comprised of representatives from
the City, the Dubuque County Historical Society, the State Historical Society and the
Dubuque Chamber of Commerce will discuss how historic preservation is a means of
downtown revitalization, neighborhood stabilization, attraction for tourism, job creation and
other amenities.

Historic Buildings" is the title of a &ee seminar, open to the public, to be held on Tuesday,
February 29, 2000 from 6:30PM to 9:30PM at the Loras College Alumni Center, Ballroom C.

outline national trends and case studies of historically significant structures making the transition

A panel discussion comprised of representatives from the State Historical Society ofIowa, the
City of Dubuque Housing Services, the Dubuque Area Chamber of Commerce and the Dubuque
County Historical Society wiIÌ follow Ms. Eide's presentation. The panel will discuss how
historic preservation is a means of downtown revitalization, neighborhood stabilization,
attraction for tourism, job creation and other amenities.
The seminar is hosted by a partnership comprised of the Center for Dubuque History - Loras
College, the City of Dubuque Historic Preservation Commission, the Dubuque County Historical
Society. the Dubuque Board of Realtors and Premier Bank. The seminar is designed to address
the interests of developers, Realtors, lenders, appraisers, property owners and historic
preservation enthusiasts. This program is approved for three hours of continuing education for
