I am pleased to inform you that you have been selected to serve on the 2000 Information
Teclmology and Communications Steering Committee, I am excited about the opportunity to
have your commitment and expertise as part of the NLC family, and I look forward to working
with you to shape the voice of the nation's cities over the coming year,
Your term begins upon acceptance and lasts through the conclusion of the Congress of Cities in
Boston, Please return the enclosed Acceptance QuestionnaIre as soon as possible to confirm
your acceptance, Within the next two weeks, the NLC staff will send you more detailed
background material about the policy process and your role at the Congressional City Conference
(CCC), March 10-14.
Your committee chair and I selected the steering committee members based primarily on
expertise and interest in the subject area. Your appointment is contingent on your city's
continued direct membership in the National League of Cities. As a Steering Committee
member, our expectation is that you will attend the Congressional City Conference, the Congress
of Cities, and two additional meetings for which dates and locations will be established at the
CCC,
During the year, the steering committee will develop policy recommendations for consideration
by the policy committee and the NLC membership at the Congress of Cities, For your
information, I have included the schedule of committee meetings at the Congressional City
Conference and a list of the policy staff contacts, If you are unable to accept this appointment or
need additional information, please contact the NLC staff member assigned to your committee.
If you have not already done so, you should register for the Congressional City Conference by
faxing your registration form to the NLC Conference Registration Center at (703) 318-7568 as
soon as possible, The deadline for early registration is Friday, February 4, After that, you will
need to register on site and make your own hotel reservations. Please bring a copy of this letter
with you when you register on site to receive the lower advance registration rate of $345.
