Narrative Description: This property is located in the West Eleventh Street Historic District. Style/Year: pre-1899, pre-1909 (Assessor dates 1195 to 1896, and 1179 to 1916!, modified Gothic Revival style (pointed dormer light, gable cross gable through cornice dormer) Physical Description: two-story frame side gable tri-plex with raised stone foundation, single entry offset to the left, two entries grouped off center to the right, symmetrical fenestration modified by the consolidation of windows on the south unit front and side wall (permastone front on ground level as well), rear wings are separated, single wing on south end, double on north, new single-story L-plan frame rear wing (18x19) on former. Rectangular core plan is 30x56, the unit widths being divided into 19’ (two south units) and 18’, the two-story rear wings measure 16x15 or 16x13, each has either a 4x16 recessed light well or side porch. Alterations: window changes as noted, permastone, deck on south unit, metal canopy and wood canopy replaces porches, aluminum siding. Siding on south unit is on top of early patterned asbestos or asphalt siding (visible on rear wing). Permits note re-roofings in 1938, 1977, 1994-95, built three-car garage 1932, repair roof two-family dwelling 1947, repair open porches 1948, enclose porch 1950, construct chimney 1953, repair rear porch 1959, remove old porch and replace with 12x15 wood porch 1987, alter four windows, residing on façade and door hood 1996. Assessor notes residing of 1195 in 1977. Landscaping/Setting: stone retaining wall on south boundary. 8. Narrative Statement of Significance: Original Owner/Builder: Howie family? Building History: Assessor splits as three properties as of 1971. James Howie owned the parcel when it was sewered (no date). 1899 directory listings not found for 1896: Chas. J. Schaefer, meat market, 137; David T. Howie, carpenter, 141; Geo. P. Rose, 143. 9.
