7. Narrative Description:
This property is located in the West Eleventh Street Historic District. Style/Year: 1914-15, L-plan
vernacular cottage.
Physical Description: single-story L-plan (rectangular core 32x16 with 24x16 right hand wing), single-
story rear shed roof wing (16x20), side bay (3x8).
Alterations: Permits note a re-roofing in1990, frame garage remodel 1932, rebuild outside stairway
1964, tear down outside “steps” and replace 1984. Assessor, 1971, notes 20x28 frame garage present.
8. Narrative Statement of Significance:
Special Significance; this cottage doubled as a grocery and residence, a rare example of commercial
activity in the district.
Original Owner/Builder: Edgar R. and Edith Champion
Building History: four-family dwelling as of 1971.
Chas. N. Snow owned the parcel when it was sewered (no date). Directories first list the address (103)
in 1916 with Edgar R. and Edith Champion, grocer (103 Walnut) at this address. They were still here
as of 1918.
