Proclamation
verbal communication is one of the most important and consistently
necessary area of our lives; and
Toastmasters is an international organization dedicated to helping
individuals become more proficient in achieving their personal goals
in regard to communication and to increase their self-confidence which
impacts all areas of their lives; and
fear of public speaking is the number one fear of most individuals and
Toastmasters helps many individuals overcome this fear; and
there are two Toastmasters Club in Dubuque, with Club #1337 being in
continuous existence since 1954 and now meeting Monday evenings
at loras College Alumni Center and Club #3588 since 1967 and now
meeting at the Dubuque Inn on the second, fourth and fifth
Wednesdays; and
these two clubs have helped many area individuals attain better
communication skills and have sponsored area Speech craft Programs
and Junior Achievement Speech Programs. .
NOW THEREFORE, I, TERRANCE M. DUGGAN, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE,
IOWA DO HEREBY PROCLAIM THE MONTH OF MARCH, 2000 AS:
"TOASTMASTERS MONTH"
IN THE CITY OF DUBUQUE AND URGE INDIVIDUALS TO BECOME AWARE OF AND
JOIN THIS HELPFUL ORGANIZATION.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have

be affixed this 6th day of March, 2000.
