Town Clock Plaza Horman, StevenHonorable Mayor Terry Duggan and City Council Members City of Dubuque City Hall Dubuque IA 52001 Dear Mayor Duggan and Council Members: The Board of Directors of the Dubuque Area Chamber of Commerce is concerned about the future of our Town Clock Plaza. We all know, because of its importance to the community, that citizens, businesses, city staff, and City Council have invested countless hours into the revitalization process. We also know that during the most recent phases of the Plaza's revitalization process, some businesses in the affected area have reconsidered their point of view and now feel that the Plaza should be opened to traffic. As the primary advocate for the business community that represents more than 1,000 businesses and 35,000 employees, we recognize the need to improve the safety and the long-term vitality of the Plaza. We owe it to the citizens of Dubuque to find a resolution to this issue and, therefore, encourage you to continue the process to resolve the direction of the plaza with business leaders and stakeholders as quickly as possible. We believe, as do many stakeholders in the area, that Main Street should be opened to traffic. The Chamber's Board of Directors unanimously voted to support that position at their regular Board meeting today. We are ready to assist in this process because we believe that working together, we can find a solution. Thank you for your continued efforts. J. Steven Horman, CCE President and CEO Dubuque Area Chamber of Commerce
