Proclamation WinterfestPROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, the first weekend of December, 2004, the City of Dubuque will enjoy a Cultural
Celebration of many events, many in the downtown area; and
WHEREAS, Winterfest events will start on Friday, December 3, 2004 and continue through
Sunday, December 5, 2004; and
WHEREAS, the Dubuque Museum of Art will have a special exhibit featuring Grant Wood and
the Edward S. Curtis North American Indian Collection; and
WHEREAS,
other activities to brighten our wintertime spirits include:
open houses at downtown stores;
gallery openings at Wartburg Theological Seminary,
"Reflections in the Park" holiday light display by Hillcrest Family Services
at Louis Murphy Park,
Trolley Rides featuring Holiday Light Tours,
"It's a Wonderful Life" featured at the Grand Opera House,
Loras College will feature a concert highlighting the Loras College Wind
Ensemble, Jazz Band, Concert Choir, Chamber Singers and Women's
Ensemble presenting the "Sounds of the Season,"
Clarke College will portray the Christmas story through narration and
musical performances, including Gerald Dolter as guest tenor; and
WHEREAS, on Saturday there will be a special breakfast with Santa Claus at Kennedy Mall
and also at the Library will be a concert and lollipops for preschoolers.
NOW THEREFORE, I, TERRANCE M. DUGGAN, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA DO
HEREBY PROCLAIM DECEMBER 3, 4, AND 5, 2004 AS:
"WINTERFEST WEEKEND"
IN THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA AND URGE EVERYONE TO PARTAKE OF THESE FUN
HOLIDAY FESTIVITIES.

Carol. The saga of George Bailey, the Everyman from the small town of Bedford Falls, whose
dreams of escape and adventure have been quashed by family obligation and civic duty, whose
guardian angel has to descent on Christmas Eve to save him from despair and to remind him~by
showing him what the world would have been like had he never been born~that his has been, after
all, a wonderful life. This faithful adaptation has all your favorite characters: George and Mary
Hatch, Clarence, Uncle Billy, Violet, and, of course, the Scrooge~like villain, Mr. Potter. This fme
dramatization not only celebrates the faith of the season, it also celebrates the American philosophy
of life: hard work, fair play and the love and support of one's family and community will be
rewarded.

Sure to put you in the Christmas spirit! Experience the best of what the season has to offer when

The musicians of Clarke College portray the Christmas story through an exciting mix of narration
and musical performances. The year's concert will feature special guest tenor Gerald Dolter. Dolter
is an assistant professor of music and the artistic director of the Texas Tech University music theatre
program and is an established performer in opera houses and concert halls in both the United States
and Europe. Event is held at Clarke College, in the Saered Heart Chapel.

Enjoy a complete breakfast with Santa and some personal one on one time. Breakfast will include
eggs, hash browns, sausage, fresh fruit, rolls, juice, milk and coffee. Mom and Dad bring your
cameras. Each child will receive a free wrapped gift from Santa compliments of Judy's Family
Treats. Cost is $4.00 per person and event will be held in the Community Room in the Kennedy
Mall Shopping Center located at 555 John F. Kennedy Road.
10:00 am Lollipops & Music for Our Preschoolers
The 30-minute concert features a musical artist or group and also includes free lollipops! Admission
is free. Contact the Northeast Iowa School of Music at (563) 690-0151 for more information, The
concert will be held at the Carnegie Stout Public Library.
