ACCEPTING IMPROVEMENT
Whereas, the contract for the Dubuque Greyhound Park & Casino Parking Lot
Improvements - 1997 has been completed and the City Manager has examined the work
and filed his certificate stating that the same has been completed according to the terms
of the contract, plans and specifications and recommends its acceptance.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
DUBUQUE, IOWA:
Section 1. That the recommendation of the City Manager be approved and that said
improvement be and the same is hereby accepted.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Treasurer be and he is hereby directed
to pay to the contractor from $297,519.41 in amount equal to the amount of this contract,
less any retained percentage provided for therein.

RESOLUTION NO. 105-00
FINAL ESTIMATE
Whereas, the contract for the Dubuque Greyhound Park & Casino Parking Lot
Improvements - 1997 has been completed and the City Engineer has submitted his final
estimate showing the cost thereof including the cost of estimates, notices and inspection
and all miscellaneous costs;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
DUBUQUE, IOWA:
Section 1, That the cost of said improvement is hereby determined to be
$297,519.41 and the said amount shall be paid from the Depreciation and Improvement
Funds of the Greyhound Park & Casino of the City of Dubuque, Iowa,

Final inspection of the Dubuque Greyhound Park & Casino Parking Lot Improvements 1997
project has been completed.
By way of this letter we hereby certify that River City Paving of Dubuque, Iowa, has
completed construction of the Dubuque Greyhound Park & Casino Parking Lot
Improvements 1997 project in substantial compliance with the drawings and specifications
therefor. The final project construction cost including Change Order No, 3 Final is
$297,519.41.
Enclosed are Contract Payment No. 4 in the amount of $31,342.49 and Change Order No. 3
Final for owner approval. The final change order reflects the work for the canopy entrance
repairs previously approved by the city, The contract adjustment for the bid items based on
installed quantities was included in Change Order No. 1.
We recommend that the City of Dubuque approve Contract Payment No. 4 and Change
Order No.3 Final. We also recommend that the City of Dubuque approve and accept the
Dubuque Greyhound Park & Casino Parking Lot Improvements 1997 work. Retainage in
the amount of$14,875.97 should be held for 30 days and paid at that time provided sales tax
forms and lien waivers are submitted by the contractor and any subcontractors, Upon our
receipt of the sales tax forms and lien waivers, we will prepare Contract Payment No. 5
Fim.1

Dubuque Greyhound Park & Casino Parking Lot Improvements - 1997
INTRODUCTION
The enclosed resolutions provide for the acceptance of the construction contract for
the asphalt surfacing of the Dubuque Greyhound & Casino Parking Lot which began
in 1997.
DISCUSSION
Work has been completed on the project by River City Paving, a Division of Mathy
Construction, of Dubuque, Iowa, in the final contract amount of $297,519.41,
RECOMMENDATION
I would recommend that the City Council accept the improvements and that the final
contract be established at $297,519.41.
BUDGET IMPACT

The additional cost of the project was the result of three change orders to perform
asphalt parking lot repairs which were outside the initial scope of the project.
The project will be funded from the Depreciation and Improvements Funds of
Greyhound Park in the budgeted amount of $345,950.
ACTION TO BE TAKEN
The City Council is requested to adopt the attached resolutions accepting the
improvement and establishing the final contract amount.
