Re: Fireworks Permit Application
On September 10, 2011, the University of Dubuque will be having their first regular season
football game "Under the Lights" at the Chalmers Field. The fireworks will start at
approximately 10:25 PM. The University is expecting attendance of possibly 2,000 — 3,000 or
more. The sports complex has plenty of internal restroom facilities for all in attendance.
After the football game, (at approx. 10:15 PM) the University is proposing to have a fireworks
display with a discharge zone being on the baseball field at the south point of the left field line.
The maximum elapsed time for the display would 10 minutes. The Dubuque Fire Department has
viewed the plat of the campus and they have determined that we need a 400 foot safety, fallout
and exclusion zone which would allow us to discharge up to 4 inch shells for the display. Safety
clearance staff will be provided to maintain the integrity of the exclusion zone.
The University will be providing 6 security staff and will have 4 additional off duty Sheriff's
Deputies. The majority of the attendees will be seated in the sports complex stands. We
anticipate additional visitors will be spread around the area. Parking issues should be minimal
based on the use of all of the campus parking lots as well as street parking in the area.
The contact person for "Krueger Pyrotechnics and Fireworks Displays ", the vendor selected to
discharge the fireworks concurs with the NFPA exclusion zone requirements spelled out by the
Fire Department. Krueger Pyrotechnics and Fireworks Displays contact person is Jim and Tara
Krueger and they are available for phone conference at 1- 608 - 732 -4545.
After the fireworks, University Security as well as off duty Sheriff's Deputies will assist with
crowd control and parking issues while our visitors are leaving the area.
No alcohol will be served on campus and since the campus is a "dry" campus, no alcoholic
beverages will be allowed during the anticipated tailgating prior to or after the game.
