The Dubuque Racing Association is requesting permission to construct an additional
storage facility near the dog kennels.

Dear Honorable Mayor and City Council:
At the monthly Dubuque Racing Association meeting held on November 23, 2004, the
DRA Board of Directors approved DRA's 2005 CIP Schedule, which included a new
storage building.
Provisions within the DRAlCity Lease require City concurrence and approval for certain
projects involving improvements or additions to real estate costing $10,000 or more (ref.
paragraph 13 of the DRA/City Lease, dated March 31, 2004).
Storage needs for an expanded operation exceed current storage space; therefore, DRA
wishes to erect a storage building that would be located between DGP&C's paddock and
an existing storage building. A map indicating the proposed location is attached to this
request.
The new building's dimensions are 45' by 120'. For comparison purposes, the existing
storage bOilding is 30' by 64'. The new building will have the same color siding and roof
as the existing building, and both buildings match the colors of the kennel compound
buildings. The supplier for the new building is the same supplier that erected the existing
building. Color photos of the existing building are provided in this submission for your
review.
The estimated cost of the new building is $37,000; adding a curb to set the building on
and electric service brings the estimated cost to $45,000. DRA's CIP schedule builds in a
$5,000 contingency, bringing the total to $50,000.
DRA respectfully requests that the City Council approve this request.
