The program is a two-day restoration workshop that has been held only in Wisconsin to date. The NTHP would like to take Restore-o-Rama on the road next year, and has chosen the Iowa cities of Dubuque and Des Moines as the kick-off sites. Restore-o-Rama is geared to homeowners, commercial property owners, contractors, historic preservation commission members, craftspeople, and interested parties. Past Restore-o-Rama workshops have involved demonstrations, walking tours, product demonstrations and lectures on a variety of topics ranging from project planning to proper restoration techniques. In consultation with the Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB), the Historic Preservation Commission selected May 20-21, 2005 for the workshop. The CVB advised that having the workshop during Dubuque Fest may provide more incentive for people to attend while allowing Dubuque to showcase its community to visitors. In addition, the Old House Enthusiasts' annual walking tour on May 21-22, 2005 will be incorporated into the program. Restore-o-Rama will be a great partnership between the NTHP, State Historic Preservation Office, Planning Services Department, Historic Preservation Commission, Dubuque Main Street Ltd., and Old House Enthusiasts. All of these groups are committed to hosting a successful restoration workshop in Dubuque. The Historic Preservation Commission appreciates the City Council's support of historic preservation, which is leading to recognition nationwide. Dubuque was selected by the NTHP as the first location to roll out the Restore-o-Rama Workshop due to the City's commitment to preservation. The Historic Preservation Commission believes this is a real honor for Dubuque, and is excited about the opportunity to partner with the National Trust. Sincerely, U,tvi& ~.
